Alpha Cheer Gymnastics. Our mission is to create a positive environment and provide your child with a cheerleading program where they are respected and given the opportunity to shine. Vision: Reaching out to and maximizing the potential of every child, one at a time. We are Alpha Cheer, a privately owned facility who offer gymnastics and cheerleading classes to kids and adults from the age of 3. Since our inception in 1998, we have continued to work with local school cheerleading teams to provide gymnastic training for kids who are interested in exploring their gymnastic abilities, and adults who are looking to maximize their potential, explore greater height, become champions and shine. We hold weekly gymnastic classes where we train students on how to: ü Develop coordination, flexibility, strength, and power ü Learn the fundamentals of movement and goal setting ü Gain self-esteem and confidence ü Listen and follow directions ü Develop skills to enhance other sports ü Have fun and make new friends. We are located at 1224 Old Fern Valley Road, Louisville, Ky 40219, and we provide a secure and well developed atmosphere for gymnasts to train, develop and practice their skills. We maintain a professional team of expert coaches who are well grounded in gymnastics and are dedicated to assisting young gymnasts and providing them with the moral support they require. So, whether you are looking to stay active and fit or develop core strength and flexibility or compete on a gymnastics team.

Yoruba inspired, after our founder’s original ancestry. The Yoruba is a language, a culture and a peoples. The language is spoken by over 30 million people and has influences dialects across the African diaspora globally; making it the mostly widely spoken African language outside of the continent. It was orally passed down for generations until colonists, in the 18th century, documented it. ọṣọ translates into “decolonization,” “wealth” and “prosperous.” We’ll adopt them all. aṣa translates in to “culture” or “tradition.” Hence our name and translation; decolonization culture. In the tradition of the griots , as family ancestry was orally passed down from generation to generation. Our owner is a descendant of JaJa of Opobo; Chieftain, leader, revolutionary. We’re claiming that heritage and conveying it on every garment we produce!

If you look closely, our logo resembles a face with Yoruba tribal marks under the “o’s” or eyes. We’re told that the marks or scarring became tribal tradition that may have originated as a result of the slave trade. Yoruba families marked their children in the event that they were captured by colonizers and slave traders. The premise being, that they would recognize their children, family, tribe or village members by the scarring on their face. A reminder that we belong somewhere, that we are seen, that we are missed, that we are loved. Today, as descendants and survivors of the colonial condition, we will recognize each other. Our products say it boldly. We see you. ọṣọ aṣa.
