About

The original “Negro Motorist Green Book” was once a resource provided to the Black Community to help them travel with ease, safety, and comfort. The Modern Green book strives to continue that legacy while supporting, celebrating, and memorializing Black Owned Businesses and Nonprofit Organizations bringing it to the 21st century. We want to see the Black dollar grow in the Black Community, and we believe that by helping Black Businesses thrive, so will their surrounding communities. We are more than just a Database, we are a Legacy.

About the Founder

Theo Edwards-Butler

Founder & CEO

Theo Edwards-Butler is a Louisville, KY native with a passion for Black Business, Culture and Arts. A 2020 Samford University Alumna with a BFA in Musical Theatre, she has had multiple opportunities to explore her passions. Theo grew up around successful Black business owners, educators, lawyers, artists, and philanthropists who helped form her and pushed her to do more for her community. She has used her creativity and passion to start a non-profit organization and held many leadership roles at her university to help create safe spaces and groups for minority students. In the spring semester of her senior year, she saw the need to create a community for Black-owned business and organizations by continuing a piece of Black History that was almost forgotten, thus the creation of The Modern Green Book. Upon graduation and in the middle of a pandemic she got to work. Theo is so happy to be able to support and celebrate Black entities across the globe and thanks everyone for showing their support to not only TheMGB but the businesses and organizations listed!
